The 2010 La Cumbre, raised in 74% new French oak, is tightly wound and introspective on the nose with macerated dark cherries, blueberry, fresh fig and violet, probably the first to really exploit the floral nature of Syrah. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and a sweet core of black fruit laced with minerals, white pepper and a touch of licorice. It has fine tension and symmetry, perhaps the best La Cumbre so far? Drink 2015-2022+ (Wine Advocate – Neal Martin)
